Easter Night Surprise at Pembroke Hospital

Another surprise inspection yet still no changes

The Department of Mental Health made a surprise visit on Sunday night (Easter night, 3/27/16) to Pembroke Hospital. No report has been made on the results of this visit.

The Department of Mental health will “make unannounced visits across all shifts and days until improvements have been made to protect worker and patient safety,” according to Quincy’s Patriot Ledger.

As a taxpayer and a long-time nurse, I say again that this is far from what I want to hear or read.

As of right now, we don’t know if anything is being done except surprise visits.

What can I say to a patient who is booked to go to Pembroke Hospital? “Everything is great, don’t worry you will get the help you need”? Or should I say, “That stinks you are going to Pembroke Hospital; I have heard that place is a real mess.”

I have read each Patriot Ledger article and reporter Christopher Burrell has done an amazing job covering.  Yet despite the mounds of information there are still NO RESULTS.

Are nurses still staffed without trained security?

Are patients getting the care they require?

Is Pembroke Hospital safe for staff, patients and visitors?

Getting back to my original question: has anything changed for the nursing staff, mental health workers or patients?
